Shore Medical Center Surgical Pavilion

Shore Medical Center’s 138,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art surgical pavilion is the centerpiece of the largest campus expansion in Shore’s 70-plus year history.

Nine spacious, state-of-the-art surgical suites provide the most up-to-date technology, including a video wall that gives surgeons and their teams instant access to medical information relating to the patient’s procedure. The same day surgery and post-anesthesia recovery areas include 32 patient bays, two pediatric patient areas, isolation facilities and four nurses’ stations.

From the beautiful, spacious, glass lined lobby to comfortable public and physician lounges, care was taken to provide a setting that would produce the best healthcare outcomes in the most humanistic way possible. All of the surgical pavilion’s pre-admission testing facilities, including laboratory services, radiology and patient exam rooms, are located in the same area of the 1st floor for convenient ease of access.

The surgical pavilion houses two 400-square-foot advanced cardiovascular imaging procedure rooms, one for cardiac catheterization and one for interventional radiology. The surgical pavilion is also home to a cutting-edge infusion therapy suite and an 8,900-hundred-square-foot endoscopy section that includes four spacious procedure suites and eight patient assessment and recovery bays.

Two of the key elements of the campus expansion are the three story medical office building and 640-space self-park garage, which are connected to the surgical pavilion via the 2nd floor crossover. The surgical pavilion’s 4th floor includes a beautiful new boardroom overlooking the bay and an expansive, open-air tree-lined garden setting.

Shore has adopted a holistic approach in the design of the surgical pavilion, borrowing from the finest healthcare facilities and patient-centric organizations to ensure the highest levels of care for the body, mind and spirit. The guiding principles on which the new surgical pavilion were based can be found in the philosophy of Planetree, a non-profit organization that has pioneered methods for personalizing, humanizing and demystifying the healthcare experience for patients and their families.

The surgical pavilion additionally maximizes energy efficiencies, using modern “green” building materials and concepts. These and other sustainable elements have placed the surgical pavilion on track to receive Silver Certification from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).
